Vampire Survivors: Complete Unlock Guide for New Players

The Core Progression Loop

Vampire Survivors uses a meta-currency called Gold Coins. Every run earns coins based on time survived and enemies killed. Spend them in the main menu shop to permanently unlock characters, weapon starting bonuses, and power-ups that apply to every future run.

Priority Purchases from the Shop

1. Amount — +1 projectile to all weapons. Transformative upgrade for most builds.
2. Armor — Damage reduction. Directly extends run length.
3. Growth — +3% EXP gain. Levels up faster, meaning more weapon upgrades.
4. Greed — +10% Gold. Accelerates your shop progression significantly.

Weapon Evolutions

Many weapons evolve into more powerful forms when you also have the matching passive item and reach level 8. Evolutions require a chest drop to trigger — ensure you always pick up chests. Key evolutions to target early:

• Whip + Hollow Heart → Bloody Tear — Gains lifesteal. Excellent survivability.
• Magic Wand + Empty Tome → Holy Wand — Fires without interruption.
• Knife + Bracer → Thousand Edge — Fills the screen with blades.
• Axe + Candelabrador → Death Spiral — Large rotating blade, exceptional for crowds.

Unlocking Hidden Characters

Most secret characters are unlocked by finding coffins on specific maps. Coffins are only visible if you explore the full map — movement speed and magnet items help reach them. The Cappella Magna stage has the most unlockable characters in one location.

The 30-Minute Reaper

At exactly 30 minutes, the Reaper spawns. It is unkillable and ends the run. Treat 30 minutes as your hard cap — build for maximum damage in the final minutes rather than pure survival.
