Thin Deck Always Beats Fat Deck

The most common beginner mistake: adding too many cards. A 15-card deck cycles faster than a 30-card deck, which means you see your best cards more often. Every card you add to your deck dilutes it. Only add cards that clearly advance your core strategy.

Know When to Skip Cards

After every fight, you can skip the card reward entirely. Do this liberally. A card that doesn't fit your build is actively harmful.

Elites Are Worth Fighting Early

Elites give Relics โ€” powerful passive items that can define a run. On Act 1, most Elites are manageable if you fight them with full health. Prioritize Relics over avoiding damage, especially early.

The Three Paths Through an Act

Every run gives you choices at each node. Prioritize paths in this order for most situations:

  • Campfire (Rest/Upgrade) โ†’ take when below 50% HP or when you have a key card to upgrade
  • Elite โ†’ for Relics
  • Shop โ†’ when you have excess gold and need a specific card or removal
  • Event โ†’ unpredictable but sometimes excellent

Card Removal Is Extremely Valuable

Every character starts with Strike and Defend cards โ€” they're mediocre filler. Shops and some events let you remove cards for gold. Removing even one Strike dramatically improves deck consistency. Prioritize removal early in the run.

Understand Debuff Stacking

Vulnerable (enemies take 50% more damage), Weak (enemies deal 25% less damage), and Frail (you gain 25% less Block) are the core debuffs. Vulnerable is the most powerful offensive tool in the game โ€” stacking it before burst damage turns fights dramatically in your favor.
