Hades II: Early Access Tips — Key Differences from Hades I
What veterans of the original Hades need to know, plus essentials for new players, about Melinoe's mechanics.
The Arcana Cards Replace the Mirror
Instead of the Mirror of Night, permanent upgrades now come from Arcana Cards — a tarot-themed system where each card costs Grasp (a currency that grows as you level up). Cards can be activated or deactivated between runs. Prioritise Arcana that extend your Death Defiance count and boost your primary Hex ability.
Gathering Resources Is Now Mandatory
Melinoe can gather reagents from the environment during runs — herbs, bones, and other materials. These fuel Incantations at the Cauldron back in camp, which unlock permanent progression, new Boons, and new tools. Don't skip gathering nodes.
The Hex System
Each weapon has a unique Hex ability (charged by Magick) that functions like a super move. Your Hex defines much of your combat identity. Some Hexes are exceptional for bosses, others for crowd control. Experiment with each weapon to find your preferred playstyle.
Omega Attacks Cost Magick
Hold the attack button to charge an Omega Attack — a powerful, Magick-consuming strike. Many Boons specifically boost Omega Attacks, creating a distinct build path separate from rapid normal attacks. Don't ignore Magick regeneration Boons if running an Omega-heavy build.
Boon Synergies Are Deeper Than Hades I
Gods now offer Duo Boons that combine two gods' powers. Unlike Hades I, these trigger more frequently and are generally stronger. Learning which god pairs create powerful Duos (Hestia + Poseidon is a fan favourite) is key to high-clear runs.
Two Routes, Different Bosses
The Underworld surface leads to Chronos, while an alternate path leads to Olympus and different challenges. You can alternate between routes in different runs, though the surface path is more developed in early access. Master both eventually.
