Hades II Early Access: Starting Guide for New Players
How to begin your first escape attempt as Melinoë, what's different from the first game, and what to do in the Crossroads hub.
Meet Melinoë
Hades II follows Melinoë, sister of Zagreus, trained by Hecate to battle Chronos — the Titan of Time who has imprisoned Hades. Melinoë has a core magic stat alongside the standard combat tools, emphasizing spellcasting more than the first game.
The Crossroads Hub
Your base of operations is the Crossroads, attended by Hecate and a growing cast of characters. Like the House of Hades in the first game, spending time here between runs unlocks upgrades, new weapons, and story content.
Arcana Cards — The New Mirror
Arcana Cards replace the Mirror of Night. They're activated using Grasp (a resource earned from runs), and each card provides a passive bonus. Early essential picks:
- The Messenger — Increases Melinoë's speed. Movement is critical.
- The Fates — Adds a third reroll to boon selections.
- Death — Revive once per run at reduced health. Equivalent to Death Defiance.
Ashes and the Cauldron
Ashes are used at Hecate's Cauldron to unlock Incantations — permanent upgrades to traversal, combat tools, and resource generation. Prioritize:
- Unraveling a Path (unlocks new routes)
- Summoning a companion follower
- Unlock the Reagent Pouch (carry more crafting materials)
How to Approach Early Runs
Early access Hades II is still being balanced, but the core loop remains: take boons, find synergies, clear rooms. The Witch's Staff and Sister Blades are forgiving starting weapons. Avoid the Moonstone Axe until you understand the timing — it's slow but devastating when mastered.
